Established in 1970, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen) is a government ministry responsible for the development and implementation of policies related to culture, science and research in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Its main tasks include:
- Developing and implementing policies related to higher education, scientific research and the arts and culture.
- Overseeing and managing public universities, research institutions, museums, theaters and other cultural institutions.
- Supporting and promoting scientific research and innovation.
- Developing policies and initiatives related to international cooperation in education, research and culture.
The Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia works to ensure that all citizens of North Rhine-Westphalia have access to quality education and training opportunities, as well as opportunities for scientific research, artistic expression and international cooperation. It seeks to promote the development of a skilled and knowledgeable workforce, as well as the advancement of scientific research and innovation in the state. Additionally, the Ministry may collaborate with other government agencies and organizations to achieve these goals, including the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
