Established in 1994, the Ministry of Education (Ministrstvo za vzgojo in izobraevanje, Republika Slovenija) is a government ministry of the Republic of Slovenia that is responsible for planning, developing and implementing policies in the fields of education, science and sports. Its main tasks include:
- Planning and implementing policies in the field of pre-school, primary, secondary and higher education, as well as adult education.
- Managing and overseeing public schools, including managing secondary and higher education institutions.
- Financing and monitoring research in the fields of science and technology.
- Promoting and developing sports and physical activity programs in the country.
The Ministry of Education works towards ensuring access to quality education, promoting scientific research and innovation and promoting healthy lifestyles through sports and physical activity. Its efforts are geared towards creating a knowledgeable, skilled and healthy population in Slovenia.
