Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte's International Students Admission International Students Admission

International students are welcome to apply for admission at this institution.

Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) provides the following information for international students:

  • Student Mobility
  • Student mobility for international students can occur in two specific cases:

    1. When there is an existing partnership between UFRN and the student's home university.
    2. When it is necessary to establish a partnership between the student's home university and UFRN.
  • Undergraduate Students from Foreign Countries under Existing Agreements
  • For students coming from foreign countries under existing agreements, the mobility request must be submitted in writing by the student's home institution to UFRN's International Relations Office (SRI). The request should include the following documents:

    1. Foreign Student Application Form
    2. Student's Academic Transcript
    3. Letter explaining the choice of the host institution
    4. Institution's Letter of Recommendation
    5. Copy of the Passport

UFRN recognizes the responsible department or, in its absence, the coordinator of the student's program at the home institution as the intermediary for this request.

Upon arrival at UFRN, students must visit the International Relations Office with the required documents, including the original and a copy of their Student Visa issued by the Brazilian Consulate and the original and a copy of International Health Insurance.

SRI initiates the request process, includes a report citing the agreement, and forwards the process to the course coordinator or department head for evaluation, even if acceptance is already agreed upon.

If negotiation of the work plan is necessary, SRI can facilitate this process.

After approval or rejection, the process must be sent back to SRI, along with the agreed-upon work plan or agreement on the original plan. The coordinator needs to sign the form on its final page.

When the process returns from the course coordination or department head with approval, SRI is responsible for:

    • Forwarding the process for signing by the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Science to the academic records department of PROGRAD.
    • Creating and negotiating a specific Addendum Agreement with the partner institution for the student.
    • Sending the Addendum Agreement to the Rector for signature.
    • Creating an acceptance letter to be signed by SRI and PROGRAD.
    • Returning the documentation to the partner institution, along with the acceptance letter attached.

The Acceptance Letter serves as a legal instrument for obtaining a student visa from Brazilian diplomatic authorities in the student's home country. It must be signed on letterhead, with official stamps and registration numbers of the signatories.

If it's the first exchange with the partner institution, negotiation of the Addendum Agreement terms will be conducted by SRI concurrently with the work plan negotiation.

  • Undergraduate Students from Foreign Countries without Existing Agreements
  • For undergraduate students from foreign countries without existing agreements with UFRN, the International Relations Office (SRI) initiates the following process:

    • Proposes the signing of a general agreement with the home institution.
    • Initiates the request process and forwards it to the course coordinator or department head for evaluation.

The subsequent steps are similar to Case 01, with the addition of:

    • Negotiation of the general agreement and the addendum agreement, or
    • Negotiation of the specific agreement if this option is chosen.
